Justin G. Nelson Discusses LGBTQ+ Advocacy and Inclusion in Business

June 2022
Justin G. Nelson, Co-Founder & President of the National LGBT Chamber of Commerce (NGLCC) joined Co-CEO Mark Bertolini as our latest guest in Bridgewater’s Distinguished Speaker Series.

Nelson has served as President of NGLCC since co-founding the non-profit organization in 2002, and Bertolini is a proud board member of the organization. As the business voice of the LGBTQ+ community, NGLCC is the largest advocacy organization dedicated to expanding economic opportunities and advancements for the LGBTQ-owned business community and is the exclusive third-party certifying body for LGBTQ-owned businesses. Over the past 20 years, under Nelson’s leadership, NGLCC has been responsible for major victories for the LGBTQ-owned business community, among them the first-in-the-nation inclusion of LGBTQ+ suppliers in statewide contracting opportunities with the Commonwealth of Massachusetts in 2015.

As part of Bridgewater’s Pride Month programming, Nelson joined BProud, our LGBTQ+ affinity network, for a conversation with Bertolini, in which they discussed the work that NGLCC is doing to support LGBTQ-owned businesses across the country which account for an economic impact of $1.7 trillion on the U.S. economy, according to NGLCC’s research. Nelson touched on the evolution of NGLCC and the particular importance of succession planning and how to expand opportunity for LGBTQ-owned businesses.
