Sian Beilock Describes the “Spotlight Effect” Within the Workplace

Sian serves as the eighth President of Barnard College at Columbia University, where she has led the College to the most selective and diverse student body in its 132-year history. She joined Bridgewater’s Internal Board as an Independent Director in July 2021, and now serves on the Operating Board of Directors.

On International Women’s Day, Sian joined the Women’s Influence Network for a conversation about her life and career. She discussed the “spotlight effect” — the belief that those around us are paying more attention to us than they actually are — and practical tips for coping with it.
