Theo Saarinen

Theo joined Bridgewater full time in 2023 as a Senior Research Scientist for AIA Labs and has served as Chief Research Officer of AIA Labs since 2026. In this role, he leads the AIA Labs research agenda, which focuses on long-term scientific bets and how they shape the firm's strategy. He is also a Partner of the firm.

Before joining AIA Labs full time, Theo was a scientific consultant at Bridgewater from 2020 to 2023, working with a team focused on machine learning analytics for trading, led by Jas Sekhon, the former Chief Scientist of AIA Labs. 

Prior to Bridgewater, Theo pursued a PhD in Statistics at the University of California, Berkeley, under the mentorship of Bin Yu and Jas Sekhon. While at Berkeley, he published in top-tier journals and presented at leading conferences on machine learning, causal inference, and applied statistics. He also received his undergraduate degree in mathematics from Berkeley.
