Theo Saarinen

Theo joined Bridgewater full time in 2023 as a Senior Research Scientist for AIA Labs and has served as its Chief Research Officer since 2026. In this role, he leads the AIA Labs research agenda, which focuses on long-term scientific bets and how they shape the firm's strategy. He is also a Partner of the firm.

Before joining AIA Labs full time, Theo was a scientific consultant at Bridgewater from 2020 to 2023, working with a team focused on machine learning analytics for trading, led by Jas Sekhon, the former Chief Scientist of AIA Labs. 

Prior to Bridgewater, Theo pursued a PhD in Statistics at the University of California, Berkeley, under the mentorship of Bin Yu and Jas Sekhon. While at Berkeley, he published in top-tier journals and presented at leading conferences on machine learning, causal inference, and applied statistics. He also received his undergraduate degree in mathematics from Berkeley.
