Bridgewater Alumni Series: A Conversation with Paul Podolsky
We’re introducing our Bridgewater Alumni Series, where Daily Observations editor Jim Haskel sits down with Bridgewater alumni for wide-ranging conversations on their experience at Bridgewater, markets and economies, and what they’re doing today. Our first guest is Paul Podolsky.
Paul spent 16 years at Bridgewater, where he was a senior portfolio strategist and head of our China research. Paul started his career in Russia as a journalist in the 1990s, writing for the Moscow Times. Later, Paul worked at Dow Jones and the Wall Street Journal before beginning a long career in the investment-management industry, much of which was with Bridgewater.
Since leaving Bridgewater in 2020, Paul has become a writer and podcaster, publishing three books. He is also the founder of Still Press, a media company, and Kate Capital, an investment management firm. On his Substack, Paul shares his research on a range of topics, including the economy, geopolitics, and his own investing.
In this conversation, Paul discusses his time at Bridgewater, what shaped him as an investor, how he’s processing the world today, what he’s done since leaving Bridgewater, and more.
