OWN OUR UNDERSTANDING
The Investment Logic Engineering Program is for people who want to solve problems at the intersection of engineering and finance. We look for people with a passion for building data models and algorithmic systems to solve complex investment problems. Ideal candidates have a thirst for discovering what makes things tick, a keen analytical mind, and a desire to work in a dynamic environment.
As an Investment Logic Engineer, your mission is to understand how the world’s markets and economies work and codify this understanding. You will spend your time designing and building the algorithms which are used to generate Bridgewater's views on markets, translate those views into portfolios, and trade those portfolios. Every piece of investment logic is owned by an Engineer and evolves with our investment understanding.
Whether you are a full-time hire or an intern, you will work on a project with real systems impact from day one. As a full-time employee, you will take ownership of an investment system from top to bottom within 18 months. As an intern, you will tackle problems within your team’s book of work and what you produce has the potential to be used long after the summer.
By design, we seek people of different backgrounds and with diverse skill sets. Though many tools and approaches used at Bridgewater are available outside of the firm, it is important to understand that many of the concepts, frameworks, and domain-specific tools are proprietary to Bridgewater. We believe that we can solve the unsolved by exposing smart, creative, and engaged people to our problems, frameworks, and techniques across subjects ranging from economics to investment systems. The skills needed to do the job are taught on teams through an apprenticeship model in addition to other structured learning opportunities.
Our approach to personal development is “all hands on deck.” You will be mentored by Engineers who deeply understand and are invested in your work, your interests, and who will help you stretch into different areas of professional growth. In your first year, you will take a structured class designed to be a guided exploration covering a range of topics. Wrestling with the investment and engineering content of the class will provide the opportunity for deep development of thinking abilities. For those who have not graduated yet, we provide an internship experience that offers a 10-week taste of the Investment Logic Engineer Program.
It’s not all about work! Fun events range from weekend ski trips to in-office celebrations to homemade pasta making. We host team-wide book clubs, explore common interests, and relax together in our team café and puzzle room. Everyone is encouraged and empowered to make their great ideas happen.
