Bridgewater & Global Citizen—Forecasting the Future: A Modern Economics Challenge 2025 Terms & Conditions
The Promoter is Global Poverty Project, Inc. d/b/a Global Citizen, a New York not-for-profit corporation, with offices located at 740 Broadway, Suite 400, New York, New York, 10003 (“Promoter”). The Sponsor is Bridgewater Associates, LP, with offices located at One Nyala Farms Road, Westport CT 06880 (“Sponsor”).
By entering into the 2025 Bridgewater & Global Citizen Forecasting the Future: A Modern Economics Challenge (hereinafter, the “Challenge”), entrants accept these terms and conditions of entry:
- Description of Tournament. The Challenge is an initiative inviting individuals globally to participate in a research competition. This first-of-its-kind competition is designed to attract a world-class, diverse pool of talent, to complete an application focusing on conducting research and providing recommendations on the evolving global economy and predict how the next era of Modern Mercantilism will transform trade, policy, and power on the global stage.
- How to Enter and Participate. Any individual applying to compete in the Challenge and who may be selected as a Winner are hereinafter referred to as a “Participant.” Applications must be submitted to the Bridgewater Challenge Site. By applying and submitting research to the Challenge, Participant represents and warrants that such Submission (defined below) is entirely their own original work and does not infringe or violate any intellectual property, privacy or other third party rights. Participant expressly represents and warrants that the substantive elements of the Submission constitute the Participant’s own original and creative intellectual output, are independently conceived, not plagiarized, nor substantially AI generated. Participant acknowledges and agrees that Participant will fully comply with the terms and conditions contained herein and on the Bridgewater Challenge Site.
- Eligibility. Participants must be 18 years of age or older as of May 20, 2025. Employees of Sponsor and Promoter and their affiliates, subsidiaries, and agencies, and members of their immediate family or persons living in the same household are not eligible to participate. Participants acknowledge and agree that Sponsor and Promoter have the sole discretion to determine the eligibility of any Participant and may, without any liability but without any obligation to do so, remove, exclude or disqualify a Participant, if Sponsor or Promoter believes such Participant violated these terms, submits an application that is fraudulent, incomplete, inappropriate, unacceptable or otherwise poses a risk to the Challenge, or to Sponsor or Promoter.
The Challenge is void where prohibited. Sponsor and Promoter reserve the right to prohibit or limit the participation of any Participant who is located in or affiliated with any country, territory, entity or person that is subject to any sanctions, embargoes, restrictions, or prohibitions by the United States government or any other applicable authority, or that poses a high risk of violating any applicable laws, regulations, or policies, or of compromising the integrity or reputation of Sponsor, Promoter or the Challenge. Decisions on matters relating to the eligibility and participation of any Participant are final. - Timing. The Challenge webpage will be made available from May 20, 2025 through August 1, 2025. The review and assessment period will conclude in late August/early September resulting in the selection of approximately five (5) Winners.
- Prize. The top 5 Winner(s) will receive $25,000 and an employment or internship opportunity at Bridgewater, pending successful completion of its interview requirements. The prize awarded to each Winner is not transferable, non-exchangeable, and non-refundable. Sponsor and Promoter reserve the right to cancel, suspend or modify the Challenge and substitute any prize with another prize if any unforeseen problem – technical, legal or otherwise - prevents the Challenge from running as planned or prizes from being issued as planned.
- Ownership and License. Participants agree that by applying and submitting the application, research papers, and other submissions to the Challenge (collectively “Submissions”), Participants irrevocably assign and transfer to Sponsor all rights, title, and interest in and to any Submissions, including but not limited to the copyright, trademark, patent and other intellectual property rights contained therein. Sponsor may use, reproduce, modify, adapt, publish, distribute, display, or otherwise exploit the Submissions, in whole or in part, for any purpose and in any manner, without further compensation, attribution, or notice to the Participants.
- Privacy. By entering and participating in the Challenge, Participants consent to Sponsor and Promoter sharing your registration information and submissions, including all personal information (which is information that can be used to identify or contact a specific individual, such as your name and email address) that you may have provided (“Personal Information”) in connection with the application or the Challenge, with other entities involved in the review and assessment process. Sponsor and Promoter may also use Participant’s Personal Information for the purpose of administering the Challenge, announcing the winner, promoting the Challenge, or promoting Sponsor’s and Promoter’s activities. Participants consent to Sponsor contacting Participants via email regarding potential internship or other opportunities with Sponsor. Sponsor and Promoter will comply with applicable laws and regulations regarding the protection of Personal Information. Sponsor’s current privacy policy is located HERE and, on the site where applications will be submitted.
- Recording and Consent. Participants hereby consent to and authorize Sponsor and Promoter to photograph, videotape, audio-record, or otherwise capture Participants’ image, likeness, voice, performance and biographical or identifying information (collectively, “Recordings”) as a Participant in the Challenge, in any award ceremony or stage moments, and in any other appearances relating to the Challenge. Participants agree that Sponsor, its successor and assigns shall own all right, title, and interest, including but not limited to the copyright, to the Recordings, and may use, reproduce, edit, modify, distribute, display, broadcast, publish or otherwise exploit the Recordings, in whole or in part, in any media, format, or platform, now known or later developed, without further notice, consent, or compensation to Participants. Participants hereby waive all actions, suits, claims and demands in law or equity that Participants or their heirs, executors, agents, administrators or assigns may have or may hereafter acquire against the Sponsor or Promoter, or any of their respective owners, affiliates or subsidiaries, including for libel, slander, invasion of privacy, copyright or trademark violation, right of publicity, or false light arising out of, relating to or in connection with the Recordings.
- Limitation of Liability. TO THE FULLEST EXTENT ALLOWED BY APPLICABLE LAW, UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES AND UNDER NO LEGAL THEORY (INCLUDING TORT, CONTRACT, NEGLIGENCE, STRICT LIABILITY, OR OTHERWISE) WILL SPONSOR OR PROMOTER, AND THEIR RESPECTIVE AFFILIATES, OFFICERS, DIRECTORS, AGENTS, REPRESENTATIVES, EMPLOYEES, AND PARTNERS BE LIABLE TO PARTICIPANT OR TO ANY OTHER PERSON FOR ANY LOSS, HARM, DAMAGES, COSTS OR EXPENSES OF ANY KIND ARISING IN WHOLE OR IN PART, DIRECTLY OR INDIRECTLY, FROM ENTERING IN OR PARTICIPATING IN THE CHALLENGE, ENGAGING IN ANY CHALLENGE RELATED ACTIVIES, AND ACCEPTANCE OF ANY AWARDS, INCLUDING WITHOUT LIMITATION (A) ANY INDIRECT, SPECIAL OR INCIDENTAL DAMAGES OF ANY KIND, INCLUDING DAMAGES FOR LOST PROFITS, LOSS OF GOODWILL, OR (B) ANY AMOUNT, IN THE AGGREGATE, IN EXCESS OF THE GREATER OF (I) ONE HUNDRED U.S. DOLLARS (U.S. $100) OR (II) THE AMOUNTS PAID BY PARTICIPANT TO SPONSOR OR PROMOTER IN CONNECTION WITH PARTICIPATING IN THE CHALLENGE, OR (C) ANY MATTER BEYOND THE REASONABLE CONTROL OF SPONSOR OR PROMOTER. SOME STATES DO NOT ALLOW THE EXCLUSION OR LIMITATION OF CERTAIN DAMAGES, SO THE ABOVE LIMITATION AND EXCLUSIONS MAY NOT APPLY TO YOU.
- Release and Indemnity. To the fullest extent allowed by applicable law, Participants will release and hold Sponsor and Promoter, and their respective affiliates, officers, directors, agents, representatives, employees, and partners, harmless from and against any and all claims, liabilities, damages (actual and consequential), losses and expenses (including attorneys’ fees) arising from or in any way related to (a) Participants’ participation in the Challenge, (b) Participants’ acceptance of any winnings or prizes resulting from the Challenge, or (c) Participants’ attendance at any events relating to the Challenge, whether caused by the negligence of Sponsor or Promoter or otherwise. Participants agree to indemnify and defend Sponsor and Promoter from any and all claims, liabilities, damages, losses, costs, or expenses arising out of or relating to the (a) Participants’ breach of these Terms, (b) Participants’ violation of any third party's rights, including third-party claims relating to any Submissions, (c) the Participants’ negligence or misconduct, (d) Participants’ participation in the Challenge, (e) Participants’ acceptance or use of the winnings or prize, (f) Participants’ attendance at any events relating to the Challenge.
This Challenge and Terms contained herein are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of New York, without regard to its conflict of laws principles. Any dispute arising out of or relating to this Challenge or Terms herein will be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction and venue of the courts of New York. - This Challenge is a game of skill and as such, the Winner(s) are selected based on the creativity and qualifications of entries submitted. The Winner(s) are advised that tax and/or legal implications may arise from their winning the Challenge and may wish to seek independent financial, tax, or legal advice before accepting the prize.
- These Terms control the relationship between Bridgewater, Global Citizen and each Participant. The Terms do not create any third party beneficiary rights. If Participants do not comply with these Terms, and Bridgewater or Global Citizen do not act right away, this does not mean that we are giving up any rights that we may have (such as taking action in the future). If it turns out that a particular Term is not enforceable, this will not affect any other part of the Terms.
PLEASE NOTE THAT PARTICIPATION IN THE CHALLENGE (DESCRIBED ABOVE) IS SUBJECT TO THE ABOVE TERMS . IF A PARTICIPANT DOES NOT AGREE TO ALL OF THE TERMS, THAT PARTICIPANT MAY NOT PARTICPATE IN THE CHALLENGE.
