Objective
This 4-day class will teach the
fundamental skills required to develop and deploy web database
transactions for e-business systems consisting of HTML with Javascript,
Java Servlets, and database access using JDBC.
This
class will give an overview of the complete web development environment,
covering all the technologies involved in developing and deploying an
e-business system using Java servlets.
The students are assumed to be experienced application
developers, with a working knowledge of COBOL, CICS and DB2.
Where appropriate, we will provide examples that compare the new
technology to the mainframe equivalent.
We also assume and that the students are familiar with using PC
tools such as Notepad, Windows Explorer, and web browsers.
We
will not attempt to cover the complete syntax of HTML, Javascript, or
Java, but we intend that a bright, motivated programmer will learn
everything that is required to begin to implement e-business systems in
Java. We assume that a
programmer with the big-picture knowledge can use reference material to
check specific syntax.
This
is a hands-on class, with many labs.
To ensure that the student concentrates on the native syntax of
the technologies, we will use simple text editors and the Sun JDK for
most of the labs. Towards
the end of the class, we will use the VisualAge Java IDE in a series of
labs to give the student exposure to a modern Java development
environment.
